The Most Important Thing You Can Do In 2019

Each new year brings new opportunities, challenges, blessings and unexpected paths. Many of us will begin 2019 with hopes and expectations and even goals and well-laid out plans for the attainment of good things we want in our lives. And opposition of some sort or another will assuredly step into view as we seek increase and change. That is simply how life rolls.

During the long, intense, and arduous task of creating a new nation, our Founding Fathers and other patriots faced extreme opposition in their private and public lives. As we read and study their historical accounts, the tasks required to achieve thier hopes and expectations and goals and plans were impossible without Divine help.

During the Constitutional Convention in 1787, as delegates reached a point which appeared beyond the possibility of reaching an accord on a document that would unify the states, Benjamin Franklin remarked, "In the beginning of the contest with Great Britian, when we were sensible of danger, we had daily prayer in this room for Divine protection-Our prayers, Sir, were heard, & they were graciously answered." Franklin had first-hand experience on the utter need for seeking help and protection through prayer.

During his presidential inaugural address, George Washington stated, "It would be peculiarly improper to omit in this first official act my fervant supplications to that Almighty Being who rules over the universe, who presides in the councils of nations...No people can be bound to acknowledge and adore the Invisible Hand which conducts the affairs of men more than the people of the United States. Every step by which they have advanced to the character of independent nation seems to have been distinguised by some token of providential agency." Washington expressed sincere gratitude through prayer for the miraculous and Divinely-directed affairs that resulted in a free nation.

Recognizing miraculous events leading to the states' victory in the American Revolution, James Madison reported, "It is impossible for the man of pious reflection not to perceive in it a finger of that Almighty Hand which has been so frequently and signally extended to our relief in the critical stages of the Revolution."

Throughout world history, ample records and accounts of the power of prayer to change the course of human events serve us now - in our day - as a reminder of the Divine power offered to each of us as we pray to God.

Prayer is not reserved for political leaders involved in the fate of nations. Instead, daily communication with our Creator is an invitation given to us all. Whether our prayers are earnest pleadings for help, sincere decrees of gratitude and appreciation, or simple conversations in an effort to increase our relationship with God, prayer provides unparalleled power in our lives to achieve and become in this life.

So, create an unforgettable 2019. Pray - and know your prayers are heard and will be answered.
